My friend

While checking out this train engine, I met a friend! His name is Jonathan!! Here we are in front of the train...can you see me??? This train is HUGE!!

National Quilt Museum

Paducah is home to the National Quilt Museum. You would be amazed at the beautiful quilts in here!

Lower Town

The downtown area is called "Lower Town." Most of the buildings have been here since the beginning of the town in the late 1890's. A lot of these buildings even were here during the big flood. Paducah has received some grants from the government, which allows artists to move here and open art galleries. During the summer there are many art festivals, music festivals, BBQ and food festivals...it's a great place to be during the summer! The biggest festival though is the Quilt Festival. This happens every April. Paducah is known as "Quilt City U.S.A." and people come from all over the world to this quilt show!

Flood Wall

In the early 1900's a severe flood destroyed the city of Paducah. They say people saved their families and horses by putting them on the roof of their houses! After a while, a big flood wall was built to protect the city in case of another flood from the river. In 2000, the city decided to paint scenes from the history of the city on the wall, anyone who comes to town can tell you this is definitely worth seeing!

History

Throughout the entire town there are historical markers telling the history of the area. Paducah was named after a Native American Chief, named Chief Paduke. There was also a Vice-President from here, named Alben Barkley. Irvin Cobb, a famous writer was also from here! Former Diamondback's outfielder, Steve Finley, lived here and went to high school here!! There is so much to know about this tiny town!

The River

The main river is the Kentucky River. There are many boats and barges that go by (you can see in the top picture a large barge behind me.) People also take "The Delta Queen" paddle boat to Paducah during river tours that are held throughout the summer. You can fish, picnic, kayak and take your personal boat...but you can't swim in the River! There are too many large boats! Also, on July 4th, I'm looking forward to watching fireworks over the river!

I'm in Paducah!

Here I am in Paducah, Kentucky. This area is known as the "Purchase Area" because of Lewis and Clark and it's also called the "Four Rivers" area because four different Rivers meet at the port. This area has so much history!
